Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation Commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmed on the first day of meet said we have over six lakh voters and will elect their corporators in 58 wards/divisions of the corporation of hyderabad on election day i.e is on March 6  the process of conducting election has already been started on Monday with issue of notification and acceptance of nominations from the candidates from time 11 a.m. to 3 p.m The nominations would be accepted at any municipal office in warangal for all wards from February 22 to 24 year 2016. Last date for GWMC election withdrawal of nominations is February 26th 2016. There are 58 wards in Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation area. 1350 candidates from all political parties have been filed nominations for Warangal Municipal Corporation Elections 2016. The stage is set for polling for the first election to the Khammam and Warangal Municipal Corporation elections and Achampet Nagar Panchayat on Sunday.

As both the corporations are witnessing a multi-cornered contest, all the political parties have drawn up elaborate plans to ensure that the voters’ turnout was high. Every single vote has become a premium vote for the contesting parties. It is being alleged that the major parties were paying about Rs 2,500 per vote.

In Khammam, the TRS leadership has got a shot in the arm with Mala Mahanadu announcing its support in the civic polls. Its Telangana unit president Padishala Sudhakar has appealed to his community to support the TRS. However, the rebels’ menace continues for all the parties including the TRS.

In Warangal, according to the TRS district president T Ravinder Rao, about 60 to 70 rebels are still in the fray. The district Congress is also facing the problem rebels in the GWMC polls. The party has expelled five rebel candidates.

The expelled candidates are Ch Prakash and S Aruna of sixth division in Wardhannapet Assembly segment. Ch Dhanraj in 39 division, K Sambaiah in 51 division and N Srinu in 55 division in Warangal (West) Assembly segment, he added.

Of the total population of 8.20 lakh in Warangal there are 6, 44,099 voters of which 3, 23,165 are men and 3, 20,814 are women. A total of 653 polling stations are set up for the voting under GWMC limits, municipal commissioner Sarfaraj Ahmad informed.

About 4000 personnel have been deployed for election duties on Sunday. A total of 1100 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) would be used for polling and an additional 116 EVMs being readied in the case of emergency.

Elections to Warangal and Khammam municipal corporations and Achampet municipality will be held on March 6. The results will be declared on March 9. Nominations for the elections will begin on Monday, February 22 and will close on February 24. The scrutiny of nominations will be done on February 25 and 26 is the last date for withdrawal.

There are 58 wards in Warangal municipal corporation while Khammam has 50 wards. The state government has recently finalized reservations in both the corporations.

The State Election Commission on Sunday issued notification for the elections of Warangal and Khammam municipal corporations and Achampet municipality in Mahbubnagar district.

In total, the entire election process will be completed in two weeks.
